I love Valentine’s Day— it’s such a crafty holiday. I was actually going to have some friends over for dinner and to make valentines, but I invited everybody over on the 12th, which for some reason I thought was Saturday.

When I realized my mistake and called everyone, they all had plans already for Saturday night. But it turned out to be a moot point anyway, because I came down with pneumonia and can’t do anything but use all these supplies I bought and make a bunch of Valentines myself. I tried to get Mikayla interested, but if there’s not an animal or a ball involved, she’s not playing.
So here are the results of my enforced bed rest crafting— a few of them look like I may have been delirious at some point— but it was a fun way to pass the time.

Here is a semi-permanent heart display I keep in my studio.

Here’s a jar I keep filled with hearts and a close-up of what’s inside.

And here’s the valentine I made for Phil, who will be so gracious and say how much he loves it, even though it’s the 1 millionth painting/drawing I’ve given him that has no use whatsoever, except to show him he’s still my Valentine, after all these years.

Happy Valentine’s Day!
~Mary

Wow! Sick with pneumonia and still creatively inspired – nothing short of amazing. Wish I had a pal like Mary who wanted to sit and craft Valentines all day! Phil is a lucky man and the two of you are very fortunate to have found each other. Still Valentines after all these years too!
I am home getting better from a virus and enjoyed seeing the beautiful valentine hearts…good for any of the days of the year. I actually keep heart crystal paperweights out all year long on a special desk, having belonged to my grandfather. I enjoy your daily calendar with the lovely drawings and very inspirational thoughts. Your artistry and ideas go out to so many people. Hope that you are feeling better soon!
I just love seeing Lisa’s sweet little dollie peaking through in each picture. I still remember how excited she was when you picked her at Silver Bella! Hope you are feeling better.
Hugs, Kim

Feel better soon Mary. I love the idea of the various hearts in the jar – so cute. I have made a mental note of that one!

Hi Mary, I hope that you are feeling a bit better. I was inspired that even while you were sick, you were crafting…you are a trooper!

Oh Mary, you’re so wonderful and creative. You’ve re-inspired me to get creative with all of these wonderful pictures of your latest crafts. I laughed when I read your note about your “millionth” drawing given to your husband. My husband gets crafts from me all the time as well and also is always a gracious recipient. We’re lucky to have such wonderful husbands who appreciate our creativeness.
Happy Valentine’s day — drink lots of good hot tea!
Get well soon! You have always been such an inspiration to me. I subscribed to you mag, saved all the paper doll inserts in my vintage train case and have one of your sweet drawings on my desk.
Your Valentine’s are darling. Thanks for posting them so that we can all enjoy. Come by and visit me sometime when you are feeling better. Bentley and I will put the kettle on.
Love,
Susan and Bentley

Hope you are feeling better soon! Any hope of bringing back “Home Companion” magazine? Please, pretty please…..
I just love your Valentines! So very pretty and creative. I love you idea of hearts in a jar (can I steal that idea?) By the way, I bought one of your Haiti posters and it arrived yesterday and I am so thrilled! It is so beautiful and I am very pleased to get one that was signed by you. It will have a place of honor in my art/craft room. Thank you so much and I hope you are feeling better soon! Kit
So sorry you got sick. I would have loved to come and sit and cut and paste and make valentines with you. Thanks for sharing your ‘hearts’ with us.
Lots of bedrest to get rid of the pneumonia.. Hope you feel better real soon. I LOVE your work and life story.
Hope you feel better
I love your valentines! And my husband is the same way….so many paintings from me!
I wish I was Phil! I’d love one of your drawings just for ME.
Hope you’re feeling better soon. Great pictures – thanks!
Your valentines are very pretty, they do not look as though you were delirious. What a lucky husband to get such a sweet gift. I decorated a paper-mache’ mailbox for mine with paper, stamps, ect. and filled it with some candy. Sorry you could not have your friends over for your fun night. I think that would have hurt me more than the pneumonia. Love all your hearts! Get well soon!
Oh Mary, I pray you get well soon. Pneumonia is rotten!
Your valentines are so pretty and so perfectly you.
You should see the dress I made my little one for Valentine’s day. It is very “Mary”.
I hope you feel better soon Mary!! Your creativeness (is that spelled right?) makes my heart sing!! Happy Valentines Day!
oh, Mary! i hope you are quickly well and up again–i did enjoy seeing the fruits of your creative energy, though. amazing, isn’t it, how expending energy MAKING something is so restorative, even at times when we don’t seem to be well physically. maybe all those hearts have set you on the right track–feel better soon!
