MEHC Workshop FUN!
February 26, 2010

We are getting so excited here about the upcoming Home Companion Workshop! The goodie bags are FABULOUS!!! The raffle items are TO DIE FOR!!! Everybody has been so generous and enthusiastic about being a part of it. I’ve even decorated the bathroom here at the studio for the tours! It was pretty clinical-looking before, and we can’t have that for this event. That’s what parties are good for, aren’t they? Finally getting your house clean and in order?? And believe me, this is going to be some party!

One of the very special treats in each Workshop brochure that will be given to each attendee will be a mini Home Companion– a never-before-seen studio tour article and a Finders Keepers… how fun is that?!  AND, of course, a brand new Ann Estelle paper doll, with all the outfits she would need to attend the workshop! We still have some spaces left– we’d love for you to come. If you sign up soon, you can still get great deals from Southwest and American Airlines. It will be a wonderful way to welcome Spring. I realize (oh boy, do I realize) the economy is tough and it’s not an inexpensive ticket, but sometimes it’s worth every penny to do something special for yourself, and naturally we’d like to be that something special!

Some of you have been saying you’re going to wait until we do a Home Companion closer to where you live, but we are always going to do these events here in St. Louis, smack dab in the middle of the US of A.  The Central West End is such a great neighborhood and of course, my studio is here– which we think you will have fun visiting with the Amazing Jan (my exec assistant) running the tours.  There are lots of antique shops, home décor, and just plain fun stores within walking distance of the Chase Hotel, not to mention tons of restaurants– but that’s only if you’re able to tear yourself away from the Workshop!

So come one, come all!  Get your  friends and get your swag and get your craft on!!!  Time’s a-wastin!

~Mary

I have created a teapot bedroom in the Mary E. theme and we were hopin that you might use it in some of your publications. If you would like pictures or since I live in Town & Country, Missouri, we would love for you to see it personally. It has been a labor of love with you as our guiding mentor.

My daughter and I are so excited for the workshop! I have been a fan forever (really miss Home Companion) and my daughter who is a 1st grade teacher has decorated her classroom with Mary’s cheerful artwork. We look forward to a creative, fun weekend in my hometown!

Oh i wish i was home so i could go! I grew up in St. Louis but i moved to LA a few years ago. I work for a video game company as a 3d artist and as a doll sculptor in my spare time. I can’t tell you enough what a wonderful influence your art has been on me since i was very young. My shelves are filled with transformers, mass effect, and giant robots cozied up to polka dots, teapots, and stripes. Your work has become a symbol of comfort to me because it means “home”.

  4. Greetings Mary!

Many years ago I wrote you after an article about you in Better Homes & Garden! You responded to me yourself and somehow I had the wherewithal to keep that letter! I JUST knew that you were going to be famous!!! My childhood friend, “C”, and I co-write a blog geared towards babyboomer women which is my only outlet at present for creative endeavor. How I would love to RETIRE from my day job so I could pursue my creative interests. I love working with disabled teenagers, but I’m getting a little weary in the energy department! lol Wish “C” and I could attend your Spring workshop, but a grandchild is due soon and daughter is having difficulties, so hopefully next time!

Come on ladies! “This is your chance to meet ME who you have been a fan of for years, you never know when the opportunity will come again, go ahead and make the reservation, it’s my treat!” I never really asked to go, so I was pleasantly surprised to hear my husband, fulfiller of my dreams, tell me these words. The same words I would like to encourage all the “crafty” ladies with.See you there!

Good Morning M.E…..I had asked around the quilt word for some quilt designs using your panels and fabrics, not one came forward ( and I know a few thousand quilters)…SEW I made one…I blogged it on my blog (in the comments) Although very bright I have to admit it I LOVE it…perhaps others would like to see one too, and maybe others will surface or at least be inspired to make one too….Do you have an area where I can locate other M.E. Quilters? You truly inspire me to be HAPPIER.

  21. Rosemary Boeck says:

I would love to be able to purchase the MEHC file boxes and the Ann Estelle paper doll that you design for your workshops. Will that ever be a possibility?

I’d Love to come…anybody know what this weeks Powerball winning numbers are?
You will HAVE to post pictures for all of us who aren’t able to make it this time.
We’ll want to see what everyone made and what the “swag” was. ;-) Enjoy!

  26. Heather says:

Mary, I’ve loved your art long before I even recognized it was ME! I just kept being drawn(hee!) to your art. Eventually I realized it was ME and then I started seeking it out specifically. And then there was the coffee table books(of which I have several and thumb through on days that I have peace all to myself) and of course the magazine…oh how it always seems to come back to the HC doesn’t it? I’m sure on some level you’d love to stop talking about the HC but the love runs deep Mary! Deep and wide!

But now! BUT NOW! We have a Mary blog! You speaking directly to us! Your blog is special. We can feel that you read our comments and that you actually care. That you are connected to the world in the same way that we are. For me, Mary E is a celebrity. So to feel that connection is very special.

Thank you for your blog. Thank you for your time. Thank you letting us be linked in to you.

While I cannot attend the workshop, I wish you and everyone else a wonderful time and many newly made or once-again-refreshed friendships.

    Heather

  27. Jeannie says:

I have liked your art and your take on all things artsy for a long time. Maybe you could consider doing a cyber workshop for those of us that can’t afford the plane tickets and hotel rooms. There is a scrapbook site I visit that sells workshops by email. Well, maybe food for thought, I still love looking at all your ideas, thanks for the efforts.

  28. Evelyn says:

Just found your blog…soooo miss your magazine…enjoyed it so much, it was so unique (not another M. Stewart copycat). Will be following you here from now on…now that all the good magazines are gone I guess blogging is the future.

  29. Kelly says:

I couldn’t be more excited about this experience! I have my spot reserved and the plane tickets are purchased… now if only I can contain myself for the next 62 days- I’m all set!

  30. My wonderful husband is treating me to the workshop – he knows how much it will mean to me! I’m one lucky girl! CAN’T WAIT!

  31. Tina Burke says:

Oh, this sounds wonderful! And I’ve always wanted to do a tour of your studio!
