Love is Love

"You know, I really do love Mary Engelbreit. Her art has lifted me out of the doldrums ever since Life Is Just a Chair of Bowlies. Maybe I'm a misanthrope, but I've always disliked graphic art that is so sweet it makes your teeth ache. But Mary's art isn't like that. It can be sweet, it can be sour, but it's always magical. I especially love that the drawings have so many details in them: the snake in the Angels drawing, the kitten in Bowlies waiting for HER bowl to be filled with cream, the sprites gathering around her in her self-portrait. And I am proud that she is speaking out to say we don't cotton to kings here; when something needs to be said, Mary says it (with her pens). Just some of the reasons I love Mary."
